Clay County is governed by a five-member Board of Commissioners. The Clay County Commission meets on the second Monday of each month, with a planning meeting at 9 a.m. and a commission meeting at 11 a.m. Meetings are held at the Courthouse Annex, 41771 Highway 77 North, Ashland, AL 36251.

The City of Ashland, Alabama is governed by a Mayor and a five-member City Council. The Council meets on the 1st & 3rd Monday of each month at 5:00 PM. Agenda items must be submitted no later than 3:30 PM on the Thursday prior to the meeting.
